PREPARE YOURSELF
Two bars of music are required to complete one basic step
Each bar is made up of 4 beats.
Relax shoulders, allow your arms freedom to move,
pretend you are playing the bongo drums ,
clap on beat 1, or try clicking your fingers on Beat 1 & 5
Talk out loud along with steps
Notice each beat is the same length

STARTING POSITION

Start with your feet parallel, about the width of your hips
Put your weight on your right leg ready to move with your left.
BEAT 1
Step back onto the left foot and at the same time raise the right heel
Remember to transfer your weight completely onto
your left leg while your right foot stays in the same place
BEAT 2
Without moving the left foot - Replace the right heel
and rock the weight back over the right foot
BEAT 3
Bring the feet together moving your left foot parallel to your right
Place your left foot close to your right and start to transfer your weight onto it.
BEAT 4
PAUSE OR TAP Change weight to other side.
Clap or click to mark the null beat
Your weight should now be on your left leg ready to move with your right.
Now we repeat the process moving to the right
BEAT 5
Step back onto the right foot and at the same time raise the left heel
Remember to transfer your weight completely
onto your right leg while your right foot stays in the same place
BEAT 6
Without moving the right foot - Replace the left heel
and rock the weight back over the left foot.
BEAT 7
Bring the feet together moving your right foot parallel to your left
Place your left foot close to your right and start to transfer your weight onto it.
BEAT 8
PAUSE OR TAP Change weight to other side,
Clap or click to mark the null beat
Your weight should now be on your right leg ready to move with your left.
Now we repeat the process again moving to the left.

Hey! Dont look now but youre dancing !!!

Remember step softly and not too far away You are not on a route march !
Always ensure the ball of the foot makes contact first swiftly followed by the heel.
Transferring your weight correctly onto each foot alternatively
leaves the other foot free to move so there is no choice of which foot to use next.

DANCING TOGETHER AS A COUPLE

Dancers face each other in a basic ballroom hold.
Leader starts with left foot forward on count 1 Follower starts with right foot backwards on count 1
Leader goes back with right foot on count 5 Follower goes forward with left foot on count 5
